How e-mail in your inbox is a customer?

A customer is the most important individual ever in an office-in person, by mail e-mail or by telephone.
A customer is not dependent on us and so the e-mail. We are dependent upon the customer.
A customer is not some one to argue or match wits with.
Customers are people who bring us their wants. It is our job to satisfy their requirements, thereby profiting the customer and ourselves.

As incoming e-mail is most important, independent, not anyone/anything to argue or match wits with and brings their wants to us, so e-mail is a customer, in fact potential customer.

Electronic mail, or email or e-mail, is a process of exchanging digital messages from an author to one or more recipients. Modern email operates across the Internet or other computer networks. Today's e-mail systems are based on a store-and-forward model. Email servers accept, forward, deliver and store messages. Neither the users nor their computers are required to be online simultaneously; they need connect only briefly, typically to an email server, for as long as it takes to send or receive messages.
Origin of e-mail
Sending text messages electronically could be said to date back to the Morse code telegraph of the mid 1800s.
In 1939 New York World's Fair, where IBM sent a letter of congratulations from San Francisco to New York on an IBM radio-type, calling it a high-speed substitute for mail service in the world of tomorrow.
Teleprinters were used in Germany during World War II, and use spread until the late 1960s when there was a worldwide Telex network.
Additionally, there was the similar but incompatible American TWX, which remained important until the late 1980s
With the introduction of Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Compatible Time-Sharing System (CTSS) in 1961 for the first time multiple users were able to log into a central system from remote dial-up terminals, and to store, and share, files on the central disk. Informal methods of using this to pass messages developed – and were expanded to create the first true email system.
What is Gmail?
This is a Google approach to e-mail.
Gmail is built on the idea that email can be more intuitive, efficient, and useful. And maybe even fun. After all, Gmail has:
Lots of space
Less spam: Keep unwanted messages out of your inbox.
Mobile access: Get Gmail on your mobile phone

Why we use e-mail?
We no longer have to wait days for messages once delivered by horseback.

Important messages can now be sent instantly through computers and phones. E-mail and text messaging have changed the way we do business.
Without email our business may be seen as prehistoric/ancient by some potential customers.
It’s the fastest, best ever, easiest and most convenient form of communication.
Let me check out some of the great advantages of using e-mail to communicate with our customers or potential customers.
First: I know you aren’t really interested in saving money, but in case you change your mind, e-mail is included free with all our packages at Perfect Choice Marketing. The savings continue with the ability to send invoices by e-mail. Decrease your printing costs and lower postage charges by sending your customers an invoice by e-mail. Also many customers’ questions can be answered by e-mail saving more money on the monthly phone bill.
Second: e-mail is a much faster form of communication than snail mail (k¤^yK MwZi †gBj) or mail delivered by the post office. e-mails are sent and received almost instantly. Many people even have their email delivered directly to their cell phone so they can be received virtually anywhere.
Third: e-mail is handy (mnR jf¨). It may be not as handy as a snack food, but it is pretty close. You may get several e-mails over the course of an hour, but you can respond to them individually when time permits. No need to place someone on hold while you answer another line, just respond to the e-mails in the order they were sent. Also, most email programs allow you to check email via a web browser. Even if you are out to lunch, on vacation or relaxing at home you can check your email from your laptop.
Another advantage of e-mail is the ability to setup multiple accounts for different departments or individuals. Instead of customers getting lost in complicated phone trees, e-mails can be directed to the proper departments with ease.
Still not convinced you need e-mail? Even though telecommunication has advanced greatly over the past few years, nothing beats have a written record of communication. A hard copy of an e-mail could save you from a court case, from a displeased employee or customer.
